Last week, I had the opportunity to participate in a ride-along with North Lyon Fire.
During my time with the department, I witnessed firsthand their dedication to ongoing training, rapid response to medical calls, and commitment to serving our community across a large coverage area.
Currently, fewer than 15 firefighters serve approximately 162 square miles. At the same time, Fernley continues to experience rapid growth, with projections estimating a 2.3% annual increase in population. By the end of the upcoming term, Fernley could exceed 70,000 residents. In addition, the city is planning for more than 800 new housing units, not including future business and commercial development.
North Lyon Fire has presented solutions that are both reasonable and attainable to help meet the growing needs of our community. As continued growth places additional strain on our fire and EMS services, it is crucial that Fernley has leadership committed to working alongside and supporting our first responders.
As our community grows, we must continue finding ways to support public safety and ensure Fernley remains safe, prepared, and well-served for years to come.
